States

Before I really get into this blog, you need to know some background information. In track, the top two runners on every team go to districts with about thirteen other teams. The top four of each district go to a region. The top four in each region go to states. Two weeks ago I went to watch regionals. Our 4*800 relay made it there and got gipped out of a spot at states when a Mentor kid tripped Sean. But every other distance race was awesome. I watched probably the best finish in a mile and two mile that I have ever seen. It was awesome and I was looking forward to states big time. Last Friday, the 4*800 was run before we went to watch, and some teams did awesome. Woodridge, a division 2 team, ran a 7:37 to break even the division 1 state record. They now have the second best time in the whole nation. Then the division 1 results were great too. Nordonia, a team that we compete with and will have to compete against again next year, placed third in the state with a 7:47. I was expecting a lot from the meet as a whole.
But it was disappointing. The only distance race that didn't disappoint was the division 1 mile, with a junior from Lancster running a 4:09. But even that race had a pretty boring finish. There was not a single race all day that was more exciting than the regional mile or two mile. I think the moral of the story is that you shouldn't have high expectations. Not to be pessimistic, but most of the time you will just be disappointed.

Graduation

Yesterday the senior class graduated. I had to be there for NHS. As NHS vice president, i got to boss around all of the other NHS workers. I didn't really boss them around though, more like manage. The other officers and I lead the seniors out to their seats. We also had to help all of the ladies walk down the three steps from the stage to the floor. We did our job well and no one fell down the steps; two or three girls did trip a bit though. I am happy for the seniors for their graduation. I am only 363 days away from the day that our class walks. With the seniors gone, our class has to step up to the leadership role now. Today after school, the other NHS officers and I will be leading the NHS meeting. It is kind of weird having to be the responsible person that I must be now. It is kind of a good feeling though. I will be in control of everybody in NHS, besides Matthew Rees, the president, of course. Besides NHS, my friends and I are going to have to step up to the role of leaders for Cross Country and Track. We pretty much are all ready, but it is going to be official soon.
We have all grown up so quickly. I remember being a kid looking at the second graders and thinking how big they were. Now they are tiny. Life really does fly by. This year is almost over, but it feels like it just started. Life is crazy.
